Great Falls Geology Hike
Description of Donation: |
Learn about the geology of the Great Falls area and its history as a gold mining district with geologist Mark and then enjoy a picnic lunch provided by Mark and Esther. Starting from Great Falls Tavern at C&O Canal National Park, we will hike to the falls (and hear some ideas on how it formed), explore the canal and its geological background, look at the complex folded bedrock and features eroded on it when it was a river bed. We'll find evidence of enormous past floods, and explore possible causes of the unnaturally straight Mather Gorge. |
