Interested in learning American Sign Language (ASL)? Want to know more about the history of signed languages around the world and the uniquely vibrant deaf community here in the Washington, DC, area? Need some practice to get comfortable with signing the standard pieces of the worship service or chatting with a deaf visitor at church? Then this is the class for you! Miako Rankin, who you see interpreting the service week to week, is also a professor of linguistics at Gallaudet University. She will lead this six-class series specifically tailored to the UUCSS community and the class participants. It's your chance to ask questions, learn the vocabulary you are interested in, and broaden your understanding of the deaf community and signed languages. |
