Ukrainian egg decorating has been handed down for generations. The tradition of decorating colorful eggs, PYSANKY, began over 2000 years ago, when people believed that eggs have great powers. The egg symbolized the release of the earth from the barrenness of winter and the coming of spring. Legend has it that as long as PYSANKY are decorated, goodness will win out over evil throughout the world.Join a small group to decorate a Pysanky or two and to enjoy a light Ukrainian lunch. Guests will receive their own eggs and Decorating Kit, complete with a kistky (writing tool), beeswax, and dye. The eggs also make great gifts as a token of love and increased world understanding. The event is for those aged 12 and over from 10 AM – 1 PM on Saturday, April 1 |
