Join the Racial Justice Task Force on a historical walking tour of Southwest, DC created by the Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum. “Before the Bulldozers: Historic Southwest D.C. Exposed is an audio and augmented reality journey exploring the history of the redevelopment of the Southwest neighborhood in Washington, D.C. Using GPS, this Walking Cinema app guides you from site to site through D.C.’s Southwest Neighborhood, telling the story of the country’s first large-scale urban renewal project—a project that uprooted 23,000 people and knocked down nearly 5,000 buildings to create an entirely new neighborhood.” Tasty snacks and a beverage for the walk will be provided. Optional lunch (pay-your-own-way) at Momo’s Chicken & Grill (vegetarian options available) will follow the event. [This event pairs nicely with a visit to the Anacostia Community Museum also offered by the Racial Justice Task Force] Each slot is for one adult. Each adult may bring and supervise up to two children/youth who can be on their feet for a couple of hours in an urban environment. |
